About

Labeyūga is a clothing label founded by Parul Gupta in 2022, shaped through an ongoing engagement with handwoven textiles and the processes that sustain them.

The work began with a shift towards a slower, more direct way of making moving away from distanced production systems and towards working closely with material and people. In April 2022, Parul travelled to Kerala to begin developing textiles in collaboration with weaving communities, building relationships that continue to inform the practice.

Yūga operates between Kerala and Delhi. Fabrics are developed on handlooms with artisans, using techniques that remain rooted in regional knowledge and practice. The garments are then constructed in Delhi in small batches. This movement between places allows the process to remain connected from yarn to finished piece.

Each garment is shaped by the nature of handwoven production. Pieces are often made in limited quantities or as one-offs, responding to the rhythm of the loom rather than fixed seasonal output. Variations in weave, texture, and colour are not treated as imperfections, but as inherent to the process carrying the presence of the hand.

The garments are designed with openness in mind. Many pieces are unisex or adaptable, allowing them to move across bodies without being fixed to one. Ease, adjustability, and continuity are considered alongside form.

At its core, Yūga is an evolving practice one that grows through collaboration, travel, and sustained engagement with craft. The intention is not rapid scale, but to build a way of working that remains rooted, responsive, and in dialogue with the people and processes it depends on.
